Obituary: Eduardo García Moure

No Hay Sacrificio cubierta Eduardo Garcia Moure

On 24 April 2018 the sad news came to us that Eduardo García Moure passed away in Maracay, Venezuela where he had been living the last years. Born in Cuba Eduardo García Moure’s first steps in the trade union movement were in the Sindicato de Trabajadores del Comercio  in Havana. Further to that he was inspired by the Cuban revolution at first. Later he became disillusioned and as a result of differences with Fidel Castro was exiled to Venezuela where he lived most of his life.

Together with Emilio Máspero and other young leaders they founded the Central Latinoamericana de Trabajadores (CLAT) in Venezuela in 1954. For many years he acted as Deputy Secretary General, only taking over the position of Secretary General of the CLAT after the passing away of Emilio Máspero in 2000.

Eduardo García Moure was also the founder and first president of the Federación de Trabajadores Latinoamericanos del Comercio, Oficinas y Empresas Privadas de Servicios (FETRALCOS).

All of his life Eduardo García Moure fought for the rights of workers and the improvement of their working conditions and as a result their lives. He did so relentlessly. Always thinking of the workers first.
Eduardo García Moure will be greatly missed by all who knew him. First and foremost by his family and close friends. But certainly also by all the colleagues he inspired. Thank you for all you have done!

We convey our condolences to all who knew him.

Eduardo García Moure may you rest in peace!
