CLAC-WOW condemns political violence in Argentina

The Latin American and Caribbean Coordination of Workers of the World Organization of Workers -CLAC-WOW-, expresses its strong rejection of any act of violence that violates the right to life, as has recently occurred in the sister Republic of Argentina and that endangered the physical integrity of Vice President Cristina Fernández.

The trade unions consider that this fact not only affects Argentine democracy, but also has given rise to serious uncertainty for coexistence to those who, in these difficult times for Latin America, are making efforts to overcome the political, economic and social crisis that affects them.

At the same time, it reminds the rulers and the ruled that life is a fundamental right enshrined in conventions, agreements and international and national declarations of the various countries of the world. The first of all rights we consider the owner of it as the generator of any other possible right.

In the same way, and in the face of what has happened, it calls on the citizens of this great homeland, which is Latin America, to actively participate in strengthening life in democracy, because this goes beyond the electoral perspective, it is understood as a system that promotes and allows unrestricted respect for the rights and freedoms of people, the creation of equal opportunities for all, the validity of the rule of law, the formation of values of equality, tolerance and respect.

CLAC-WOW cannot forget that the history of Latin America has often been clouded by these irrational acts of barbarism, the same ones that must never be repeated and that deserve, on the contrary, the repudiation of those who want to live together in peace, harmony and social justice. The given that causes violence goes far beyond physical harm. Violence causes the backwardness of peoples, the imposition of measures that fundamentally affect the poorest and the development of a critical conscience based on values and principles of integral humanism.
