WOW-Asia pushing forward

Since WOW-Asia was founded in 2015 it has really worked hard to re-establish contacts with the former ABCW member-organisations in Asia. This has resulted in positive growth in membership and numerous activities implemented. Both on regional level as well as on national level.

To show the effect of WOW-Asia an overview of activities undertaken follows:

The BSCWF-Bangladesh conducted a Labor Law Course and a Regional Women’s Conference in the month of November 2018. While in the early part of December, the BSCWF held their National Orientation of Trainers.

NIKEUBA-Indonesia collaborated and actively participated in the Conference on “Voices on Equality and Justice” held in Bali, Indonesia. It was also occupied with the recruitment and membership expansion where they successfully organized and affiliated the PT.ISS Employees, Indonesia.

Also in Indonesia the RTMM is preparing for their National Board Meeting this month. They will simultaneously conduct a seminar in “Protecting Domestic Product”. This is part of their advocacy in the food and beverage sector.

From 10 – 14 December 2018 the ICL-India participated in a conference organized by the Indian Institute of Workers’ Education under the Ministry of Labor, titled “Development of Leadership. The also organized their Regional Conference in Utter Pradesh, a state of India.

Lastly, the CDWP-Philippines has considered the recruitment and membership expansion as one of its priorities. It has been able to affiliate fourteen (14) associations and (2) unions.

They further implemented a “Course on Collective Bargaining” jointly sponsored by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-BLR) and the CDWP.

Additionally, the CDWP conducted an “Orientation of Workers in the Informal Sector” as a basic approach in organizing workers. This was sponsored by WOW in cooperation with KRIFA.

Last week, the “Livelihood Project” sponsored by WOW in cooperation with CLAC was launched in Mindanao for the benefit of the Aloran Vendors’ Association.

And just very recently (13 December) CDWP co-signed the CBA of the PCU Staff Union.

About WOW

WOW was founded as a Social Christian trade union and finds inspiration in the spiritual believe that man and universe were created by God or by persuasions coinciding with that. The increase of intercultural contacts provided opportunities for the WOW to expand and broaden its view with visions of other religious backgrounds. WOW does so in a joint attempt to build a world community based on freedom, dignity, justice and solidarity.
